Art In Bloom
Art in Bloom is a floral design contest and gallery show where participants create arrangements that interpret and complement selected works of art. The event provides an opportunity for floral designers of all skill levels to participate. Interested floral designers may register by May 1, 2025. Space is limited to 12 applicants.
This event is presented by the Sampson Arts Council, in partnership with ArtWorks of Sampson, Inc.
Artist Reception & Show Dates
Meet the Florists: May 29 @ 5:30 pm
The Artist Reception will be held on Thursday, May 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Meet the florists, view their stunning designs, and enjoy hors d'oeuvres and musical entertainment in the beautiful setting of the Victor R. Small House. This is a wonderful opportunity to support a local artist and immerse yourself in the vibrant art scene of Sampson County.

How to Participate
Application
Due to limited space, only 12 applications will be accepted on a first-come basis. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The deadline to register is May 1, 2025. Follow us on social media to get the latest updates.
Important Dates
- Friday, May 1, 2025: Art in Bloom application deadline – only (12) applicants will be accepted on a first come basis. You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
- Thursday, May 8, 6:00 - 7:00pm, at ArtWorks Gallery, 306 Vance Street Clinton, NC 28328: Orientation and Art Selection Meeting (for all selected participants).
- Wednesday, May 21, 2025: Materials checklist and interpretation description due.
- Thursday, May 29, 10am - 12pm, 12 - 2pm and 1 - 3pm: Gallery Installation at the Sampson Arts Council, Victor R. Small House, Clinton, NC 28328. Time slots will be assigned to each designer.
- Thursday, May 29, 5:30 – 7:30pm: Art in Bloom Reception at the Sampson Arts Council, Victor R. Small House, Clinton, NC 28328 - free and open to the public. Designers are encouraged to attend and speak with the public about their designs. Winners will be announced, hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and musical entertainment will be provided.
- Friday, May 30, 9:00am - 5:00pm and Saturday, May 31, 9:00am - 2:00pm: Art in Bloom event hours, free and open to the public.
- Saturday, May 31, 2:30 - 3:30pm or Monday, June 2, 10:00am - 1:00pm: Arrangement pick-up.
Design Guidelines
- Arrangements must adhere to specific dimension restrictions.
- Floral materials must be fresh or dried; artificial materials are not allowed.
- Containers must be stable, watertight, and not easily tipped.
- Designs should express the essence or spirit of the assigned artwork and follow the elements and principles of design.

Awards
Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded:
1st Place: $250
2nd Place: $150
3rd Place: $100
The judging criteria include:
- Design: Overall composition and presentation, including elements of design.
- Materials and Elements: Selection, use, and organization of creative materials.
- Expression: Overall creative interpretation and relationship to the work of art.
Additional Information
- Designers may be asked to refresh their arrangements throughout the event.
- Arrangements must be picked up on the specified dates..
